RTA holds inaugural cycling championships for male & female staffs

Dubai: The inaugural edition of the Roads and Transport Authority’s Cycling Championships, held at Nad Al Sheba Cycling Track, logged solid turnout from RTA’s male and female employees.

The event took place as part of the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Community Sports Initiative launched by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee-cum-Chairman of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award.

It is aimed at promoting the practising of sports among community and public organisations.

Ebrahim Al Haddad, head of the RTA Sports Team, said, “It is the first time for the RTA to hold this championship, yet it saw a huge participation from employees of various sectors and agencies. The competition, which was contested over 8km for males and females, was held in conjunction with the Dubai Sports Council, UAE Cycling Federation, Dubai Police General HQ and the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services.”

Abdullah Ebrahim, from the Legal Affairs Department, Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, was the winner finishing much faster than the runner-up Thaer Adnan, from Monitoring and Inspection Department of the Licensing Agency, and the third was Waleed Al Hammadi, from the same department.

In the females contest, Shamma Al Shehi, from Drivers Licensing Department, Licensing Agency, was the winner and Hanan Al Nahhas from the same department finished second ahead of Siham Bint Mohammad from Roads Department at the Traffic and Roads Agency who came third.

“The RTA is always keen on bringing happiness to employees through holding a series of sports events that are important for the public health. They help make employees physically and psychologically fit, and improve their daily performance and productivity,” said Al Haddad.
