Abu Dhabi: The public sector will have a week of holidays from Sunday, July 3, to Saturday, July 9, to mark Eid Al Fitr.

The Eid holiday was approved by the Cabinet during a meeting on Sunday, which was chaired by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The Cabinet meeting took place at the Emirates Palace and was attended by Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

Work resumes on Sunday, July 10

As per the Cabinet resolution, federal and government bodies will resume work on Sunday, July 10.

The Cabinet also approved the school calendar for the next three years.

The holiday for the administrative and teaching staff for the academic year 2015/2016 for all public and private schools following the Ministry of Education’s curricula will start on June 30.

A proposal was approved by the Cabinet to give priority to citizens who served the national military service. All ministries and federal bodies will give priority for recruitment and promotion to Emiratis who finished the national service in recognition of their efforts in serving the nation and meeting the nation’s call for duty.

The Cabinet approved an initiative to unify licensing procedures for doctors and health-care professionals in the UAE.

All procedures, regulations and requirements have been standardised to achieve the principle of partnership between the Ministry of Health and Prevention and local health authorities in all emirates.

The move aims to attract highly qualified medical staff and health-care professionals to work in both sectors and ease their transfer and exchange of expertise, as well as to unify licensing procedures for all specialities.

The Cabinet approved amendments to some provisions of the Penal Code No3 of 1987 and issuing of a federal law amending some provision of Federal law No 14 of 1995 regarding combating drugs and psychotropic substances.

The decision aligns with the UAE’s vision to ensure a safe community and fair judiciary to cope with the international developments in the security field.

Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi has been appointed as the Chancellor of the UAE University, and Mohammad Al Baili has been named the university’s Director General.

The Cabinet endorsed a number of agreements and conventions signed between the UAE and friendly countries.
