Dubai: The UAE adopts the innovative approach in governance and sees it as a future necessity, said His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Innovative approach is not a complementary tool or a transitional need, but the basis of the evolution and progression of nations, Shaikh Mohammad said, adding: “so we adopt it as a key engine to bring about positive changes in the community."

Shaikh Mohammad made these remarks on Thursday while visiting the Mohammad Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation where he attended part of a training programme for the centre’s third batch of Innovation Diploma.

Shaikh Mohammad launched the Arabic platform of the Innovation Toolkit in the presence of Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future; Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, Director-General of Dubai Protocol and Hospitality Department; and Huda Al Hashemi, Assistant General Manager of Strategy and Innovation In the Office of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Future.

Innovation Toolkit

The Innovation Toolkit was developed by the centre in cooperation with the National Foundation for Science, Technology and Arts in Britain (NESTA) to enhance competencies, build national capacities and cadres on the basis of innovative scientific innovation and turn innovation into an institutional and community culture in order to realise the UAE Vision 2021 to be at the forefront of the world’s most innovative countries.

“Life has taught us that the continuation and development of man is linked to his ability to devise solutions to any challenges,” Shaikh Mohammad said.

“We adopted innovation as an approach to empowering UAE national cadres and leaders to contribute to the development of our country’s future and the well-being of our people,” he added.

“I personally follow up on the centre’s diploma since its launch and I am happy with the results achieved by the past two batches. We want to build upon them and present better, innovative, influential, applicable models that proactively respond to future challenges, facilitate people’s lives and make a difference in the government,” Shaikh Mohammad noted.

Earlier in May, the Mohammad Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation (MBRCGI) launched the third round of the Public Sector Innovation Diploma, in collaboration with Imperial College London. Fifty-six employees from both local and federal entities took part in the third edition of the programme.

The diploma aims to support the directions of the UAE Government through preparing the next generation of executives in the area of innovation, cultivating a culture of innovation and developing innovative ideas in various vital sectors, which will eventually strengthen the UAE’s global position in this field.

During his visit, Shaikh Mohammad reviewed projects and initiatives being overseen by the centre and was briefed by work teams on the work progress and the centre’s role in promoting innovation as an institutional culture.
