Dubai: The first Emirates Forensics Conference and Exhibition slated for April 2-4 will offer a forum for police, forensics and criminology specialists to share latest expertise and technology to better solve crimes, said authorities.
More than 1,500 delegates have registered. They will be appraised of the latest developments by 44 forensic experts from 25 countries who will lead the conference through speaking engagements and workshops.
The forum, organised by Dubai Police and INDEX Conferences and Exhibition will offer a wealth of new data for delegates, said General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation.
“Crime is changing and now we have different kind of crimes which didn’t exist in the past like cybercrimes and financial crimes. Dubai Police want to apply the best international standards in its criminal laboratories at its forensic science and criminology facility,” Gen Al Mansouri said.
He said that Dubai Police solved the mysteries behind many crimes like the Wafi robbery, Al Mabhuh assassination, Suzan Tamim murder and the Chechen leader assassinated in Dubai in 2009.
Dubai Police are always working toward enhancing its premiere skills to solve complicated crimes.
The conference will be held under the logo “Digital Forensics Science”, in cooperation with INDEX Conferences and Exhibition at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
“It is an international scientific platform where the best minds in forensic sciences and criminology will convene to discuss the most recent research, studies, and technologies. It will support the forensic evidence and criminology sector on the local level through to the scientific level,” he said.
Meanwhile, General Dr Ahmad Eid Al Mansouri, Director of Dubai Police’s Forensic Science and Criminology Department, said that the number of members of the International Scientific Council has reached 44 international experts from around the world from United States and the United Kingdom to Romania and South Korea.
They will be joined by scientists from the GCC and experts from the United Arab Emirates.
“Most of the crimes in the future will be cybercrimes and we can see that such crimes have increased and this needs more innovative forensics methods and gadgets to counter it. The conference is an opportunity to share the latest technologies and patterns used in forensics,” said Gen Dr Al Mansouri.
Dubai police said that the scientific committee of the conference, which includes a huge list of leading forensic experts, has provided all the required support to the International Scientific Council, where they chose the best of the submitted papers to be displayed during the event, organised the workshops, and provided all the required equipment for those workshops to guarantee their success and smooth operation. They have also set aside valuable prizes for best participation in the Young Scientist Award Competition.
Dubai police said that the most important scientific topics related to forensic evidence and lab tests have been assigned. Those include forensic and genetics cases, criminal dentistry, criminal chemistry, microbiology and explosives, biological sciences, DNA and genetics, forensic toxicology, nuclear physics, digital crimes science, computer crimes, social media networks crimes, criminal engineering, currency counterfeiting, document forgery, firearms and machinery cases, and crime scene management.
