Abu Dhabi: A total of Dh325,000 worth of fines were issued to worker accommodation owners and supervisors for failing to maintain health and safety standards, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced in a statement sent on Monday.

A recent inspection into the conditions of worker accommodations in downtown Abu Dhabi, Bani Yas, Al Wathba and Al Shamkha areas revealed that many lacked firefighting equipment as well as kitchen and recreation facilities. Poor kitchen hygiene was also seen, and there were no dining rooms on many accommodation premises. These violations were especially prevalent in accommodations located within construction sites.

The municipality recorded 14 violations and handed out fines.

The authority has also called upon worker accommodation providers to provide adequate facilities and maintain health and safety standards for the well-being of residing workers.
