Dubai: In a bid to acquaint people with the virtues of Ramadan, the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has launched the ‘Convoy of Goodness’ campaign, as part of the 14th Dubai Ramadan Forum.

The forum will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation.

The ‘Convoy of Goodness’, which will run until July 4, aims to acquaint people with the virtues of Ramadan and its teachings of tolerance, and introduce them to the events and activities taking place on the sidelines of the 14th Dubai Ramadan Forum.

The convoy, in cooperation with Dubai Police, will travel across Dubai to distribute gifts and Islamic educational material, which include USB devices containing Quran recitation and guidebooks offering information about the jurisprudence of fasting and the best way to benefit from the month of Ramadan, in addition to the agenda for the lecture series and other activities and events of the Forum.

The ‘Convoy of Goodness’ will go around the city in two shifts daily during Ramadan. The convoy will start in the morning from 9.30am to 12.30pm, and in the evening from 9pm to 1am.

The convoy consists of 14 volunteers from different nationalities. They will go around residential and commercial areas and major streets in the city as well as visit hospitals, shopping malls, beaches, hotels and mosques to distribute the Ramadan bag to people of various nationalities and religions. The contents of the bag will be available in different languages.

Hamad Mohammad Bin Mejren, Senior Vice-President of the Dubai Convention and Events Bureau at the DTCM and General Supervisor of the Dubai Ramadan Forum, said: “The Dubai Ramadan Forum’s calendar of events gets bigger in scope and size with every passing year. The ‘Convoy of Goodness’ has now become one of the most prominent events associated with the Forum, as it contributes to conveying the message of education and enlightenment and spreading awareness among people of the blessings and benefits of the holy month, which people eagerly wait for from year to year. We have completed all preparations necessary for the success of the ‘Convoy of Goodness’ campaign, and recently held a meeting with officials of the General Directorate of Traffic at Dubai Police to facilitate the smooth movement of the convoy while also ensuring the public is able to move freely and unhindered. Details of the provision of barriers and patrols to organise the distribution process of brochures and Ramadan gift bags were also finalised during the meeting.”

The Dubai Ramadan Forum, in its 14th edition this year, will be held from June 24 to July 4, and includes many social, religious, charitable and volunteer activities, some of which are held this year for the first time, such as the exhibition on the History and Art of Arabic Calligraphy, in which Emirati, Arab and non-Arab calligraphers are taking part.
