Dubai: As the nation mourns the death of Shaikh Rashid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, citizens and residents flooded social media platforms with condolences and tributes.

Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and General Security in Dubai, tweeted: “For God we belong and to Him we return. Eyes are filled with tears, hearts are saddened and we will only say what pleases God and your parting dear Rashid has saddened us all.”

Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, tweeted: “The United Arab Emirates lost a noble and athletic horse rider with the death of Shaikh Rashid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.”

Dubai Municipality, Dubai Police, the American University in Sharjah and media outlets across the nation expressed their condolences in tweets.

Ali Mo’en Jaber, Dean, Mohammad Bin Rashid School for Communication, Director of MBC Group Television, paid respects to the royal family and all Emiratis in his tweet on Sunday. He tweeted: “May God have mercy on his soul and forgive him. May God grant him a place in Paradise. My condolences to all Emiratis going through this tragedy.”

Residents shared childhood photos of Shaikh Rashid with his siblings asking God to shower his soul with mercy and forgiveness. Others expressed sorrow through poetry attached with a picture of Shaikh Rashid, praying for his soul to rest in peace. All tweets carried the hashtag #Shaikh_Rashid_Bin_Mohammad_in_the_Protection_of_God.

@mm711mm06 wrote: “Your people are saddened Zayed, the wound of the martyrs has not healed and now Mohammad has lost his son Rashid.”

@zzaazz4219 tweeted: “For God we belong and to Him we return. Thank God for everything and may God have mercy on his soul, grant him forgiveness and exempt him.”
