Abu Dhabi: Scrupulous Ramadan and Eid check-ups across food premises in the capital, Al Ain and the Western Region sparked 156 warnings and over 63 notices, the Abu Dhabi Food and Control Authority (ADFCA) revealed.

While 134 facilities were found to be abiding by the Authority’s rules and regulations, a total of seven eateries were fined for failing to adhere to the required standards, forcing the Authority to seize 37.4kg of food products which were considered to be sub-standard.

Mohammad Jalal Al Rayssi, Director of Communication and Community Service Division of ADFCA, said: “During the summer and Ramadan we take extra vigil by increasing the inspection drives. The increased temperatures during the summer poses high food safety risks. Also, the increased demand and subsequent consumer visits to food facilities necessitate extra monitoring and control during the fasting season.”

He said that these inspections play a crucial role in maintaining the food safety levels, particularly during the peak seasons.

“We are focusing more on education and awareness during our routine and surprise inspections. The visits also help us to closely watch and monitor facilities in order to take adequate measures and actions,” he added.
