Dubai: Thirteen riveting one-actor performances from around the world will take centre stage at the sixth Fujairah International Monodrama Festival (FIMF) from January 20 to 28.

Organised by the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority (FCMA) and held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, the festival will host more than 300 celebrities, theatre actors and performers from all over the world.

The biennial festival, which debuted in Fujairah in 2003, will welcome guests to the opening ceremony with an operetta titled Pearl of the East to be performed by the Sigma Dance Group at the Al Aqah Beach on Monday evening.

Nightly one-act performances will follow starting Tuesday evening with Finding Aziza Sulaiman, Maya, A Woman in Waiting, Just Garbage, Sighing, Burning, Eves of a Dream, Convict Women-Lifetime Exile, Diary of a Madman, Life as a Dream: Salvador Dali, The Law of Gravity, Miss Julie, and Human Form 1.

The festival will honour renowned Kuwaiti actor Abdul Hussain Abdul Ridha as this edition’s winner of the Fujairah Award for Excellence in Theatre. Also, Lithuanian artist Birute Mar will be the first recipient of the Fujairah International Monodrama “Valery Khazanov” Award.

During the eight-day festival, participants will be engaged in a round table discussions on different topics about the theatre, including “What’s left of Theatre: New realities, new trends” on Saturday.

Savas Patsalidis from the Critics Association - Greece, Canada’s Ross Manson , Sun Huizhu William from China, Dr Hans-Georg Knopp of Germany, Anatoly Frusin from New Zealand, and UK’s Colin Watkeys are the key speakers at the discussion.

Young local talents will also benefit from Polish artist Jolanta Juszkiewicz, who will hold a workshop on “Poor Theatre Method”.
