Abu Dhabi: Summer camps in the capital are putting in place some of the highest standards to ensure a safe and incident-free environment for children.

XPRESS checked out check lists at holiday camps around town and found it to be impressive. Ambulance, nursing staff, CPR-trained staff and temperature controlled food packets ticked all the right boxes. For instance, the camp at the Armed Forces Officers Club will have an ambulance on standby in case of emgergencies. Vasudevan Sanjeevan, recreation manager at the club, said the sporting activities offered at the club deems strict safety standards. “Children’s safety is our first concern. There is water sports, swimming, fitness, shooting and recreational trips. All precautions including a standby ambulance and nursing staff are in place for emergencies, “said Vasudevan.

He added that the food packets are temperature controlled to rule out food poisoning. Organisers at The Little Gym summer camp said they follow US safety standards. “Our gym has safety padding, and we use anti-bacterial and anti-microbial carpets,” said Janee Johnson, gym director. The children-staff ratio is another safety aspect. Many camps team children into groups of 10 or 15 and have two to three staff members to supervise them.
