Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has held the municipal council and the municipality in Khor Fakkan responsible for the damages to property caused by the heavy rains and mudslides.

Addressing a live programme on Sharjah Radio, he called for urgency in procedures related to alleviating the damage, especially in Mudaifi area that was hardest hit.

Dr Shaikh Sultan also instructed officials to ensure the storm water drainage system is able to work efficiently ahead of the winter rainy season.

His directives came as a prompt response to a complaint through the Direct Line (Al Khat Al Mubasher) Programme broadcast live on Sharjah Radio and TV.

Dr Shaikh Sultan promised to visit Khor Fakkan to follow up the concerns of its residents.

In March, flash floods left up to 60 families homeless. The situation prompted the the municipal council to call for the building of concrete barriers in the Mudaifi area, sending the proposal to erect concrete barriers to higher authorities.

The unprecedented rain and hail storms that struck the area resulted in government bodies in the emirate of Sharjah joining together to rescue residents trapped by the flood waters, and generally work together to lessen the impact of the flooding.
