Dubai: Beit Al Kheir Society spent Dh84.4 million as part of the ‘Give for your own good’ initiative during Ramadan this year, making it the largest campaign in its history.

Juma Al Majid, chairman of the society’s board, said 65 per cent of the amount (Dh55 million) was zakat money that benefited more than 100,000 families. Around Dh27.5 million in cash was given to needy families while 5,500 families receive monthly assistance from the society.

Food and aid worth Dh9.4 million were provided to 10,887 people while 69,990 iftar meals were served daily.

Expenditure on Zakat Al Fitr projects amounted to Dh2.22 million, half of which was in cash and half in the form of 115,000 rice bags weighing 10kg each.

The society spent Dh10.7 million on the ‘Eideya’ project, which aims to provide cash gifts to orphans and registered families at the society. Ramadan and Eid clothing worth Dh5.3 million were also distributed among 17,513 people.

Around Dh4.7 million was spent on orphan sponsorship and distributed among 2,226 orphans. The expenditure on special needs people reached Dh1.2 million and benefited 1,212 individuals.

Around Dh1.2 million was spent on the Elaj (treatment) project to treat 342 citizens and residents and Dh1.7 million was spent on a charity programme that distributes basic household appliances and carries out home maintenance.

Al Majid thanked Al Maktoum Foundation and Dubai Islamic Bank Humanitarian Foundation for donating Dh30 million as well as the Habtoor Foundation who contributed to the success of the campaign.
