Dubai: “The future of media starts today” is the official theme for this year’s edition of the Arab Media Forum (AMF), the organising committee of AMF has announced.

The 13th edition of AMF will be held on May 20-21. The event aims to explore new trends outlining the future of the industry in the region.

AMF 2014 seeks to discuss how media outlets in the region are adopting new technologies that drive the global development of the industry.

Mona Al Merri, director-general of the AMF Organising Committee, said AMF this year “will shed light on how new trends are challenging conventional media, thus altering text-book definitions and principles in this field”.

She said: “Creating a platform that gathers the finest of media personalities, intellectuals and executives in the region, the forum will attempt to draw key outlines for advancing the industry in the years to come.

“An important aspect of development is to raise the bar of professionalism and creativity to satisfy the audience’s intellect and gain their trust.”

In recent years, the media scene in the Arab world has been surrounded by unprecedented challenges brought about by rapid political and social changes.

On the technological aspect, the AMF 2014 will shed light on the latest software, hardware and techniques used by international media institutions and how these technologies help reinvent conventional media operations.

AMF attracts considerable attention from Arab and foreign journalists. Last year’s edition focused on Arab media in transition and discussed a wide range of topics in light of the situations that affected a number of Arab countries.
