Residents can easily adopt a pet from the Abu Dhabi Animal Shelter (ADAS), an Abu Dhabi government organisation that houses stray and abandoned pets, and animals surrendered by their owners.

The ADAS is in the premises of Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital, located a few kilometres away from Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Through its interactive dedicated website, the ADAS provides an online platform, where the interested general public can view the cats and dogs for adoption. (www.abudhabianimalshelter.com)

The shelter’s opening hours from Sunday to Thursdays 8am to 5pm, and Saturdays 9am to 1pm are convenient for working parents to visit the shelter with their children, said Dr Margit Gabriele Muller, Director of Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital.

ADAS participates in major events like the Abu Dhabi International Hunting Exhibition and regularly visits schools to actively promote animal welfare and encourage people to adopt from ADAS, instead of getting a new pet from a pet shop.

“I wish that more people come and adopt from ADAS. The big advantage of adopting a pet from our shelter is that people know what they will get and we can guide them to find the most suitable pet for them as we know its character and behaviour,” said Dr Muller.
