Dubai: Four people have been killed and 20 injured in 30 traffic accidents since the start of Ramadan, Dubai Traffic police statistics show. Figures showed drink driving caused four accidents.

The leading cause of accidents was swerving with six incidents, not leaving enough space between vehicles came second with five incidents, entering the road without ensuring there were no vehicles and driving under the influence of alcohol came in third with four instances each.

Some 55 vehicles were involved in the accidents.

Of the 30 accidents between June 29 to July 15, 21 involved vehicle collisions, in which three people died. Three cases involved drivers losing control of their vehicles one of which led to the driver’s death.

One vehicle crashed into a tree, there were two pedestrian accidents, and three vehicles crashed into barriers.

Three people sustained serious injuries. Four accidents occurred around 11pm, three at 6am, three at 11am and another three at 12pm.

During the entire month of Ramadan last year there were 15 deaths and 156 injuries in 166 accidents involving 203 vehicles. Between 4pm and 7pm there were 28 accidents in which one person died and 27 were injured.
