Abu Dhabi: Over 150 million people have been helped thanks to the Zayed Future Energy Prize, named and established in honour of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The organisation was founded in 2008, with the goal of advancing renewable energy, achieving sustainable development, and promoting innovation to help communities. With its 39 winners, the organisation has managed to reach more than 150 million people through its projects.
As many as 57 million people have benefited from its solar energy programmes. More than 37 million people have benefited from its solar lanterns programmes, with more than 2.5 million people in rural Africa recently benefiting from this programme, and having access to energy.
In Bangladesh, Dipal Barua, the first winner of the Zayed Future Energy Prize, has helped over 5,000 women become green technicians, as well as establishing the Zayed Future Energy Scholarship that supports the women financially.
Young students are also training at the Zayed Solar Academy and Zayed Energy Centre in Malawi to be able to provide solar power to their communities, with similar programmes being implemented around the world.
