Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in his capacity as Ruler of Abu Dhabi, issued a law reorganising the International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC).
The law states that the fund will be a corporate body that enjoys a legal personality and financial and administrative independence.
The fund’s objective is to protect houbaras from extinction in all countries in which the bird’s population exists. The fund also aims to preserve the diversity and genetic origins of purebred houbara bustards. The fund increases the number of houbaras through captive breeding and then releasing them in countries. It also spreads awareness on issues pertaining to houbaras both locally, regionally and globally.
The law stipulates that the fund will also be joined by the National Avian Research Centre, Shaikh Khalifa Houbara Breeding Centre in Kazakhstan, and the Emirates Centre for Wildlife Propagation in Morocco. The assets, commitments and rights of all these centres will be devolved to IFHC.
