Dubai: Dubai Municipality aims to reduce its energy consumption through lighting by 50 per cent, resulting in savings of 6,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year. It will focus on using natural lighting where possible and switching to energy-efficient LED lights at 260 municipality-affiliated centres. The civic body has partnered with global lighting solutions provider Philips in the project. In the coming three years, it will reduce energy consumption by 20 per cent. Dubai Municipality’s new Al Fahidi Souq is an example of its green initiatives, with LED lights and solar-powered water heaters installed.
