Dubai: Dubai Municipality has introduced special equipment to remove cigarette butts and small pieces of trash from roads and markets.

Abdul Majeed Sifai, director of the municipality’s waste management department, said the move will contribute significantly to providing “high-quality, 24-hour services realising the Dubai Municipality vision to build a happy and sustainable city”.

He added that the department has introduced 40 new machines to deal with small quantities of waste and cigarette butts that are difficult to remove. “This is a quality addition to the equipment used by the cleaning staff of Dubai Municipality, either on roads or in markets or residential areas, instead of traditional manual cleaning,” said Sifai.

Sifai said the equipment works in accordance with a system to deal with the wastes scattered in the road median areas, on the sides of the roads, and at traffic lights and Metro stations. “The 120-litre-capacity equipment has the feature of separating sand in a special bag and cigarette butts in another. These equipment are easy to use and for movement and the cleaners can use them all the time and save a lot of time and effort and help them to quickly complete their work,” he said.

“We always strive to add modern technology and devices to support all our operations to improve the field work in the cleanliness of the emirate of Dubai, and to achieve this end it requires us to use what is new in the field of integrated waste management with all its techniques.”
