Dubai: Ditching your car for a day in Dubai can give you a chance to win an iPad or an Apple Watch among other gifts.
Participants of Dubai’s Car Free Day on Sunday stand a chance to win valuable prizes in a social media content launched by Dubai Municipality.
Khalid Badri, director of Corporate Marketing and Relations, told Gulf News that the civic body has launched the contest to encourage more people to participate in the annual drive aimed at creating awareness about environmental pollution caused by vehicles.
“It is like an incentive … something to encourage people to participate and win gifts,” he said, urging residents to take part in the Car Free Day initiative in large numbers.
The municipality has announced gifts like iPad Mini 5, Apple Watch and coupons for other valuable gifts.
The contest is open to all members of the society ditching their cars while going to work by taking public transport facilities like Metro and bus, or by cycling or walking.
Car Free Day participants have to first register their details on the website of the municipality www.dm.gov.ae
The rules posted online by Dubai Municipality say those interested in taking part in the social media contest must follow the civic body’s social media pages.
Participants are required to take a picture or a video while using public transport, bicycles or while walking.
“Participants must use #DubaiCarFreeDay hashtag when posting these. They must post on their Instagram account while mentioning Dubai Municipality account @dubaimunicipality using #DubaiCarFreeDay,” the municipality said.
Three winners will be selected through a draw, it said.
