Abu Dhabi: Al Gore, former US vice-president and chairman of the Climate Reality Project, has won the Lifetime Achievement Award of Zayed Future Energy Prize.

Al Gore received the award from General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, at the opening ceremony of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week on Monday morning.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Abdul Fattah Al Sissi, Egyptian President, were present at the ceremony.

Al Gore said he was happy to receive the award instituted in the name of Shaikh Zayed who initiated the UAE’s pioneering sustainability efforts.

Nine winners received the award in various categories.

Dr Sultan Ahmad Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of Masdar, welcomed the gathering of thousands of delegates from across the globe who are attending the week-long events on sustainability.
