Abu Dhabi: To commemorate the UAE’s National Day this year, which marks 44 years since the unification of the emirates, the International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) released 44 of its houbara bred in captivity to celebrate the occasion.

The 44 houbara, each marked with a bird ring in the colours of the UAE national flag, were released in the presence of Abu Dhabi schoolchildren to signify the IFHC’s commitment to education.

Commenting on the release, Mohammad Al Baidani, director-general at IFHC, said, “As we celebrate the occasion of the union of our country under the great leadership of our founding father, Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, it is a privilege to see the continuation of his conservation efforts.” “The houbara bustard is intrinsic to our cultural heritage, owing to its inseparability from falconry, an ancient art form that has been practised by our ancestors for thousands of years. Today, on National Day, let us come together to celebrate our heritage, from our national treasures to our conservation legacy and much more,” he added.
