Abu Dhabi: Following a new agreement signed between the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) and the Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council, substance abuse patients will be offered assistance to re-enter the workforce.

The help to introduce recovering persons to labour market opportunities should ease their rehabilitation, said officials.

In a statement, the NRC announced that the agreement also aims to provide patients with treatment and support to ensure their reintegration into society.

Under this cooperation, patients discharged from NRC, which offers treatment and support for substance abuse among Emiratis, will benefit from training programmes and career opportunities that the Tawteen Council provides with different employers in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The Council is a governmental body tasked with finding employment for Emirati jobseekers.

Statistics from the NRC show that roughly 3,500 people suffering from addictions have been treated at the centre in the last decade.

The incidence rate of people with addictions in the UAE has risen in recent years most notably among younger generations.

Persons with addictions are offered 24-hour help through the NRC’s hotline on 800 2252.
