Abu Dhabi: Over 7,500 jobs will be on offer at the ninth edition of the Tawdheef Recruitment Fair, which begins in the capital tomorrow (February 2).

The three-day career-making event is expected to see nearly 12,000 Emirati job-seekers in attendance, looking for positions at the numerous participating public, private and semi-government entities.

“This year, we are seeing a very strong presence from the banking sector, which also has a very active Emiratisation strategy. In addition, there are a number of oil and gas and energy firms, as well as entities from local industrial and service sectors such as transport, retail and telecommunications,” Hayete Jemai, Tawdheef exhibition director at organiser Informa Exhibitions, told Gulf News.

The majority of positions on offer are at local companies, including investment and development firm Mubadala, satellite communications company Yahsat, and renewable energy industry leader Masdar. About 10 per cent of the vacancies are also at multinational companies such as HSBC Bank Middle East Limited and oil and gas service provider Schlumberger.

The eight edition of the fair in 2014 saw 6,000 positions on offer, and this year’s event will see an increase of 1,500 jobs for Emiratis.

Jemai added that exhibitors had also expressed an interest in hiring fresh graduates.

“It is hard to pinpoint just how many of the vacancies are geared towards fresh graduates, but our survey of companies showed that they have such positions available. In addition, there are internship opportunities as well,” she said.

This year will also see a two-day Emiratisation summit, where industry leaders will discuss trends and challenges in hiring and retaining Emirati personnel. In addition, the Emirati youth forum will connect with university students and fresh graduates to get an understanding of their career aspirations and training needs.

Tawdheef will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister for Culture, Youth and Community Development.
