Dubai: No fire occurred in the Burj Khalifa on Sunday night, Dubai Police has clarified after images of smoke coming out of the world’s tallest tower circulated on social media.

A Youtube user posted on Sunday a video showing smoke that appears to be emanating from the Burj Khalifa. “Fire, fire on Burj Khalifa,” says the voice in the background.

Images that were apparently extracted from the same video are also circulating online, especially on Twitter.

Authorities confirmed they were aware of the reports and quickly dismissed them as unfounded. In its Twitter account, police said the smoke is just a fog.

“It’s that time of year the clouds gather around Burj Khalifa and trick us. It’s just a fog, our beloved Burj Khalifa is safe and shining,” said the police.

But some people claimed the reports were true. One Youtube user stated: “There was [a] huge fire inside the building. My friend is living there. I got very scared.”
