Sharjah: Tariq Mohammad Yousif Al Awadhi, a UAE football referee, died on Friday night after being involved in a tragic car accident on Massafi-Al Dhaid Road.

The victim was driving from Massafi to Sharjah when his car was involved in accident a round 9 pm, said police.

Police operations room received a call on Friday night reporting the accident. The victim driving with his family when the road tragedy occurred.

An official at Al Dhaid hospital told Gulf News that the hospital at 9.30 pm received four persons including the deceased’s wife and his two-year-old son, in addition to the mother of his wife and their housemaid.

Official said that the toddler was kept in the ICU as his condition is critical, while the other three members are out of danger and their condition is stable.

Tearful teammates and friends paid their tributes on the social media to one of UAE football referee stars.

The UAE Football Association issued a formal obituary of Al Awadhi through their social media accounts.

The funeral was held at Sahaba mosque in Sharjah after Dhuhur prayers and the body was buried in Sharjah cemetery.
