Ras Al Khaimah: Two Indians were killed on the spot when a speeding minibus slammed into the rear of a heavy truck here on Monday afternoon.

Police said the minibus was not keeping enough distance between the two vehicles.

An officer at Ras Al Khaimah Police told Gulf News the deadly collision took place at around 4pm on Al Ghail Road heading to Fujairah.

Police patrols and paramedics said the 43-year-old driver, identified as A.B., and a passenger, B.V., 31, died on the spot.

Two other passengers, identified as R.A., 25, and A.U., 25, were admitted to Saqr Hospital and the driver of the truck, identified as M.N., was also hospitalised.

An official at Saqr Hospital said R.A. is in critical condition while A.U. is out of danger.

Initial investigations revealed that the driver of the truck was driving at a low speed on the right side of the road and the driver of the minibus was speeding.

The minibus driver tried to avoid the collision with the truck but he lost control and rammed into the rear of the vehicle.

The bodies were moved to Saqr Hospital to be handed over to their families.

The police appealed to drivers to abide by traffic laws and pay attention to the road.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from Al Basrah electric company, where the deceased worked, told Gulf News that four Indian workers were in the minibus when the incident took place. “We received a call from the police and a team from the company went to the site.” “We informed their families in India and we are working to finish legal procedures to repatriate their bodies.”
