Dubai: The Dubai Police land rescue wing helped two Chinese men after their car got stuck in the sand in a desert area.

Lt. Col Ahmad Atiq Burquibah, Deputy Director of the Search and Rescue at Dubai Police, said they received the call at 11.25am. “The report said that a car was stuck in a desert area on the Hatta-Oman road behind Dubai Sports Club. A team was immediately dispatched and we were able to locate the car via satellite,” he said.

The team arrived at the scene within 15 minutes, and found that the car was 1.5km away from the road, and that it was difficult to reach due to the high sand dunes.

“We provided the two men with water and food, and they were in good health. Meanwhile, the team worked on extracting the vehicle,” he said.

The two men thanked Dubai Police for their help.

Maj Burquibah urged people who want to enter the desert to take enough water and food, in addition to flashlights and satellite phones, a first aid kit and a GPS if possible.

“People can also use Dubai Police SOS service on their smartphones or smart watches, to help us find them when in distress,” he added.
