Dubai: More than 700 road accidents were reported in Dubai during the Eid Al Adha holiday, a police officer said.

Colonel Turki Bin Faris, director of the Command and Control Unit at Dubai Police, said that 728 traffic accidents occurred across the emirate during the four-day Eid holiday.

The operations room received 125,867 calls from the public during the holiday.

He attributed most accidents to speeding, carelessness, failing to maintain a safe distance between vehicles and lack of attention.

Col. Bin Faris urged motorists to stick to their lane, drive safely and take extra caution at interchanges, and foremost abide by traffic rules.

He appealed to members of the public to call number 999 only in emergency cases and 901 to inquire about services provided by Dubai police.
