Abu Dhabi: Mohammad Khalaf Al Mazroui, adviser for culture and heritage affairs at the Court of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, and his nephew Al Fandi Mohammad Al Mazroui died on the spot in an accident on Liwa-Abu Dhabi highway on Thursday.

The accident happened near Madinat Zayed City Grave. Mohammad Khalaf Al Mazroui also was the. Chairman for Abu Dhabi Hunting and Equestrian exhibition.

Al Mazroui, also former chairman of Abu Dhabi Media Company, was accompanied by Al Fandi Mohssen Rashed Al Mazroui, when their four-wheel car collided with another carrying Matar Mohammad Al Mazroui and Ganem Ali Al Mazroui.

Matar Mohammad Al Mazroui Ganem Ali Al Mazroui were seriously injured.

The injured were flown to Madinat Zayed Hospital in the Western Region.

Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court mourned the death of Mohammad Khalaf Al Mazroui, adviser for cultural and heritage affairs at the court, who passed away in a traffic accident.

The court extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of Al Mazroui.

Al Mazroui was born in Zayed City in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi. Ever since he was young, he took a keen interest in the environment, falconry and Arabic literature. After completing his studies, he graduated with a Master’s degree in Management from the State of Oregon, US.

Al Mazroui served as director-general of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, and as chairman of Abu Dhabi Media. Al Mazroui launched the Abu Dhabi Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition back in 2003. In a short span of time, the exhibition turned from a local event into a first class festival of economy, tourism and folklore on the regional and international level.

The ADACH was also responsible for launching two of the most popular TV programmes in the Arab world: Million’s Poet and Prince of Poets. In less than two years since its inception, the authority also launched the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, New York Film Academy-Abu Dhabi, Shaikh Zayed Book Award, Liwa Date Festival, Al Dhafra Festival, the Kalima translation project and many others. The authority was also responsible for a qualitative shift in the organising of Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.

The Emirates Writers Union also issued a statement mourning the passing of Al Mazroui. They expressed their profound sorrow on his death, adding that he was a diligent man who left his mark wherever he has been. “We are extremely proud of people like Al Mazroui, who work tirelessly in serving their nation in all fields,” said the statement.
