Abu Dhabi: A six year-old girl was found in the trunk of a salon vehicle after she went missing for 12 hours in Al Ain’s Al Nahel area.
The incident sparked a social media campaign under the hashtag #The Search for the Al Nahel Child where users prayed for the child’s safety and expressed concern for her well-being.
Colonel Mohammad Al Rashidi, Director of the Al Ain Police Directorate said the centre had received a call at around 12am on Wednesday from the child’s mother, saying that Malak K. had failed to come home after she was last seen playing in the area.
After she was found by a member of the Al Ain police force, Malak was taken to a nearby hospital for a medical check-up. The family is currently being investigated for child negligence.
Despite the tragic incident, Al Rashidi said the situation reflected the Al Ain community’s comradarie during the search. However, the official also highlighted the importance of not inciting or spreading misinformation without first checking its authenticity with credible sources.
