Sharjah: A massive fire broke out at a power station behind Taawan Mall in Sharjah on Sunday morning.

Firefighters from Sharjah Civil Defence battled the flames for well over three hours.

Police cordoned off the scene of the incident to aid the work of Civil Defence team.

Brigadier Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence Department, told Gulf News that the fire broke out in a power station at 9.30am.

Motorists reported seeing thick black plumes of smoke billowing from the power station.

The extent of the damage was not immediately clear.
