Sharjah: Search and rescue divers recovered the body of an Egyptian man from the sea in Sharjah on Sunday.

The victim’s boat had been involved in an overnight collision, officials said. Four members of his family, who were on the boat, were rescued and moved to Al Kuwaiti Hospital for treatment.

The 40-year-old man died on Saturday night after his boat collided with another while he was on a fishing trip with his family and relatives, a Sharjah Police official told Gulf News.

The victim, identified only as A.M.S., was knocked overboard when a speeding boat hit his vessel around 8.30pm on Saturday. The deceased’s boat was anchored in open waters near Radisson Blu Hotel when the incident took place.

Police said it is possible the deceased and others on-board were asleep when the collision happened.

The coastguard and a rescue team were dispatched to the scene and later recovered the body.

The man was taken to Al Kuwaiti Hospital where he was pronounced dead and moved to the forensic laboratory for a post-mortem. The case is with Al Hira police station and an investigation is under way.

The deceased and the survivors were not wearing life jackets at the time of the incident, an official said.

Sharjah Police reminded everyone to use the navigation lighting on their boats at night and reduce the vessel’s speed.
