Sharjah: Sharjah Police are investigating the death of an Asian worker in the Sharjah Airport Free zone on Sunday afternoon, an official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News.

The police operations room received a call on Sunday at around 2pm reporting the incident.

The Indian victim, identified as D.M.S., 33, allegedly died after being electrocuted as he was trying to connect some wires during maintenance work on the site.

The official said that the victim was not wearing safety gear at the time of the incident and the company for which he worked had not adhered to safety regulations by making it mandatory for him to wear the gear, the official said.

The body of the victim was transferred to Al Qasimi Hospital and later to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy.

The company’s managers are in custody for questioning. Co-workers who witnessed the accident are also being questioned to try to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, the official added.
