Dubai: A man got trapped in a deep pit and was almost buried alive at a construction site in Al Barsha area before emergency workers came, police said on Tuesday.
Rescuers carried out a five-hour operation to bring the Asian man to a safer ground from pit filled with running groundwater. The man was trapped after sand and gravel collapsed on him, said rescuers.
According to Lt. Col. Ahmed Atik Bu Ruqaiba, Dubai Police deputy director of search and rescue department, the incident happened at 8:15am on Monday at a construction site in Al Barsha 4 area when the worker fell into the pit and got stuck there for five hours.

“We arrived to his location after 10 minutes (following the emergency call). The worker fell in the hole which contains water — and sand and gravel buried him. The rescue operation continued for five hours and it was a tough mission,” Lt. Col Bu Ruqaiba said.
A rescue team led by Captain Abdullah Al Rahoomi carried out the rescue operation. Emergency workers used mechanized descent tools, a water pump and other rescue equipment to pull out the worker.
Capt Al Rahoomi said that Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Ambulance and Dubai Municipality emergency personnel participated in the rescue operation.
“We tried to calm the worker who was stuck inside the hole. There was (running) water inside the pit, which made our mission more challenging. Thankfully, after five hours, we managed to rescue him. His condition is stable and he received first aid from our paramedics,” Captain Al Rahoomi said.
