ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi Civil Defence teams brought under control a fire in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

The fire broke out in 50 units makeshift labour accommodation units and a bus parked in the vicinity in Al Hamra area, a statement said. There were no casualties or major injuries in the incident.

The General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence was alerted about the fire at 2pm on Thursday. The Civil Defence teams and Quick Intervention Units from Al Ghayathi amd Al Ghuwaifat rushed to the scene and prevented the fire from spreading to other units.

Lt Col Mohammad Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, director-general of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, said investigations are still going on to determine the cause of the fire.

The official urged all contractors and building owners to adhere to all the safety rules when using makeshift labour accommodation. Al Ansari advised them to leave enough space between the temporary housing units and to build the kitchens separately from the housing.
