Dubai: A delegation from seven Indian Orthodox churches donated Dh115,000 and goods like blankets and foodstuff to the Emirates Red Crescent’s campain ‘UAE Compassion’ (Trahamu) on Sunday.

The campaign was launched to provide relief to thousands of Syrian refugees in the Levant who are exposed to freezing wintern conditions in makeshift tents with inadequate facilities.

Mohammad Abdullah Al Haj Al Zarouni, Manager of the Dubai Office of Emirates Red Crescent, thanked the delegation for the contribution made by over 30,000 church-goers in the UAE following the call made by the Supreme Head of Indian Malankara Orthodox Church and Catholicose of All The East Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose II.

By the end of the campaign, over Dh228 million had been donated by expatriates, Emiratis and government and private sector organisations across the UAE in addition to hundreds of tonnes of relief materials and foodstuff.

The delegation praised the noble human values of the UAE and its wise leadership which was promoting tolerance, peace and humanitarian work among the people in distress around the world and helping the needy and disadvantaged people without distinction of race, religion, gender or affiliation.
