Dubai: A Gulf News distributor died in a road accident early Sunday morning on the Umm Suqeim flyover.

Arul Annadurai, 35, sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures after accidentally swerving and hitting an advertising pole on the flyover at around 5am. He was taken to the Saudi German Hospital but succumbed to his injuries at 8.32am.

Annadurai was on his way home after delivering the day’s papers on Sunday when the accident happened. A rescue official, who attended to his case, said his body was thrown off the walkway because of the impact.

Originally from Chennai, India, Annadurai leaves behind his wife and two daughters, aged three and 20 days old.

Annadurai previously worked as a Gulf News distributor in the northern emirates before moving to Dubai. He delivered newspapers to the New Dubai area.

“Arul was a very responsible distributor and he carried out his work diligently and had very good relations with everyone. It is a great loss to our team,” Thomas Mathew, Distribution Manager at Gulf News, said.

Annadurai’s area manager, Amit Banerjee, described him as “a nice person, very soft-spoken, and one who exceeds expectations”. He said letters of condolences have poured in from Gulf News subscribers from Annadurai’s area.

Annadurai’s body will be repatriated to India as soon as formalities have been completed.
