Ras Al Khaimah: Police are investigating the death of a four-year-old Palestinian girl who drowned in a hotel swimming pool on Friday, an official told Gulf News.

The Emergency department of Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah received a report of a girl drowning in the swimming pool of a resort on Friday at around 12pm.

Police said the girl, identified as B.A.I., and her family were staying in the hotel when she fell in the swimming pool.

This is the third case of its kind in the emirate in the past two years, following the death of two children who drowned in hotel pools.

The parents of the girl told Gulf News that they went to a resort in Ras Al Khaimah to enjoy the weekend.

The family had two daughters, aged four and two.

Recalling the incident, the father of the girl said that the family reached the resort at around 3pm on Thursday and the next day at around 11am he went to the swimming pool with his daughter.

The hotel has two swimming pools, one for kids and the other one for adults, the father said.

The father said his daughter was playing with a bucket along with other kids when the incident happened.

His daughter was spotted at the bottom of the swimming pool by a security guard.

“After fifteen minutes of reporting her missing, a security guard saw my daughter lying at the bottom of the pool,” he said. The guard entered the water and pulled her out.

“A guest at the hotel, who happened to be a doctor, administered first aid until an ambulance arrived.”

“My daughter drowned and there was no lifeguard at the pool. It is a tragic moment,” he said. “I was screaming and asking for help … the hotel management said they had phoned the ambulance, which rushed her to Saqr Hospital 25 minutes later.”

The girl was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, police are questioning two lifeguards of the hotel. The hotel management declined to comment.
