Dubai: Fire erupted at a warehouse next to a Toyota Service Centre in Al Quoz, Dubai, on Monday.

The fire broke out at Bin Hareb Decor warehouse on Shaikh Zayed Road behind Al Futaim Motors, Dubai Police said.

Dubai Civil Defence spokesperson said the fire broke out at 12.50pm at a warehouse belonging to a decor factory. Four fire stations, Al Quoz, Al Rashidiya, Al Manara and Port Saeed battled the flames. The fire was brought under control at 1.56pm. No casualties have been reported.

Thick black smoke emitted from the one-storey building and Civil Defence personnel took a while to contain the blaze.

Workers from adjacent buildings were evacuated as a precautionary measure even as thick plumes of smoke and soot enveloped Shaikh Zayed Road and Al Quoz area.

The blaze caused a major traffic jam on Shaikh Zayed Road, on both directions.

Firemen struggled to stop the blaze from spreading to adjacent buildings, which housed  car showrooms and service centres.

According to a worker in one of the showrooms next to the fire site, firemen were seen trying to save a oil tank from fire, which is located at a nearby service centre.

Strong winds made it difficult for firemen to contain the blaze.

The site is surrounded by a number of car showrooms and service centres, including Toyota, BMW and luxury cars.

People working in the adjacent buildings have been asked to go home.
