Sharjah: A fire gutted a factory in Industrial Area 12 on Tuesday morning damaging all the contents inside, an eye-witness told Gulf News.

The fire broke out at around 11:30 am, but was immediately contained and did not spread, he said.

Teams were dispatched Sharjah Civil Defence headquarters within a few minutes to put out the fire. No one was injured.

“The fire started at a factory which I believe produces furniture or wooden products. It was only 16 metres away from our factory and from where I was standing,” said Atif N.S., a business development executive. “It caused a total damage to the factory.”

A video sent by the same eye-witness to Gulf News shows workers standing in an area behind the factory as thick grey smoke erupted from the site.

From a distance, a man is seen climbing over a wall trying to escape the site. Sirens were then heard in the background.

Sehole said luckily the fire did not spread to any neighbouring factories in the area.

“The fire brigade reached the site within minutes and controlled the fire, even though there were strong winds today. It must have been challenging.”
