Ras Al Khaimah: Two people were killed and three others were injured in a road accident in Ras Al Khaimah on Thursday afternoon, the police said.

The accident happened when one of the cars took a U-turn without checking whether the road was clear. The 21-year-old Emirati driver hit his vehicle into the car driven by a 66-year-old driver, who was making the U-turn, the police said. The Emirati driver tried to avoid the collision, but failed.

Operations room received a call on Thursday around 3.20pm reporting the incident involving two cars, said Brigadier Dr Mohammad Saeed Al Hamidi, director-general of the General Directorate of Central Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police.

As a result of the collision, the driver from Comoros Island, 66, and his son aged 11 died on the spot while his two other children aged 12 and 14 were seriously injured. The Emirati driver of other car was also injured.

The victim, 66, was travelling along with his three children at the time of the accident .

The father and his son aged 11 were killed on the spot, while the two other sons sustained critical injuries.

The injured were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to the hospital morgue in preparation to hand them over to their relatives for burial.

Brig. Al Hamidi appealed to drivers to abide by traffic rules.
