Dubai: A Dubai Police officer died on duty when a pick-up truck crashed into him when he was standing next to his patrol car on Saturday morning.
Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Chief, said the police officer was helping out a woman, whose vehicle had broken down on the side of the road on Hessa sSreet.
The police officer, Sergeant Saleh Musad Ahmad, was in his fifties.
Maj Gen Al Mazeina said, “The officer was standing next to the door on the driver’s side and speaking to the operations room asking for a crane to tow the woman’s car when he was run over.”
He said the officer was rushed to the hospital, where he died. Maj Gen Al Mazeina sent his condolences to the officer’s family and friends. Investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
Maj Gen Al Mazeina said drivers should slow down when they see a patrol car or police lights.
According to Twitter, Sgt Ahmad’s funeral was held at the mosque in Al Quoz cemetery on Saturday evening.
