Dubai: Dubai Police carried out a multifaceted exercise, which included simulating a labourers’ riot, during which teams from the General Department of Organisations, Protective Security and Emergency worked together to control the situation.

Brigadier Abdullah Al Gaith, director of the department, said the exercise, which is for training purposes, aims at measuring Dubai Police’s readiness and to evaluate the procedures to handle a similar situation, if it takes place.

The riot was simulated at the department’s training facility in Al Ruwayah.

The scenario also included another “call” about a strike among detainees in a Dubai jail and another incident about workers instigating disorder and starting a strike in a labour accommodation in Al Quoz area.

An impartial committee from the Ministry of Interior will evaluate the drills.

Teams attended to the three incidents simultaneously, and put the situations under control and arrested the labourers in Al Quoz.

Other departments that took part in the exercise included the departments of Operations, Transport and Rescue, Criminal Investigation, Dubai Civil Defence and Dubai Ambulance.

The scenario was a success, Al Gaith said, adding that emergencies and disasters can take place anytime and at any place, and all authorities should always be ready to deal with those situations.
