Dubai: Employees, customers, including people of determination and children, were evacuated from Dubai Municipality’s Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL) in Al Karama in a mock evacuation drill.

The drill was conducted as part of ensuring the implementation of the best standards of occupational health and safety and to increase awareness of the same, the municipality said in a press release on Monday.

During the drill organised with the cooperation of the Civil Defence Department, the employees and customers, including people of determination as well as children in the DCL Nursery were safely evacuated within a record time, it said.

The evacuation drill was conducted to assess the actual readiness to deal with such emergency conditions, and to improve contingency plans to become more effective. It was also aimed at training staff to deal with emergencies, implement safety instructions and comply with the rules and regulations.

With the launch of the warning whistle, the staff performed the eviction successfully within the stipulated time and everybody gathered under the “Union Umbrella.” The safety guides then enumerated the staff and reported the missing names to the safety team.

“This exercise comes in line with our approach and efforts to ensure that the highest standards of safety are implemented to ensure the protection of life and property,” said Amin Ahmad, director of DCL.

Stressing the keenness of DCL in the safety and security of the children of the DCL Nursery, and the people of determination among the employees and customers, he said such employees in the department were identified and the safety team assisted them and guided them to use emergency exits.

The team also ensured their arrival at the assembly point during the evacuation process, he said, adding that the purpose of this experiment was to identify the improvement in procedures and reporting them to fill gaps and shortcomings.
