Ras Al Khaimah: A five–year-old Arab boy was seriously injured after falling from a window of a second-floor apartment in Ras Al Khaimah on Wednesday, police said.

The Arab boy, identified as A.A.A., was alone at his home in Al Maumura area when the incident took place.

One of the building’s residents witnessed the boy lying on the ground and reported the incident to police.

Lieutenant-Colonel Waleed Mohammad Juma Al Nuaimi, Director of Criminal Investigation Department at Al Maumura police station, said by the time police patrols and paramedics arrived on the scene, the parents had taken the boy to Saqr Hospital.

Initial investigations show that his 35-year-old father, A.A.A., and 32-year-old mother, R.G.A., were not present at home when the boy fell off the window of their apartment.

The boy suffered serious injuries and multiple fractures, but has survived, he added.

The case has been referred to the public prosecution for legal action, he said.

Lt-Col Al Nuaimi said this is the first incident of family negligence in the emirate.

He said parents, particularly the mother, should take responsibility ethically and legally for the children’s safety. Parents should keep an eye on their children to avoid such incidents which lead to death sometimes, he said.
