Sharjah: Police are investigating the death of an 11-year-old boy who fell from the sixth floor of Al Jawaher building in Al Majaz area on Thursday.
The boy, identified as H.M.H and a British national of Yemeni origin, died on the spot after falling from the window of his room, the family told Gulf News.
According to a family member, the boy was very active and friendly and was studying at the International School of Creative Science where his mother is a teacher. On the day of the incident, he had told his friend that he was planning to jump from the window of his room.
“It’s the negative influence of the internet and the YouTube on the children’s life,” the family member said without elaborating.
The deceased was the eldest and had another brother aged four and an 8-year-old sister. On Thursday, when the mother returned home from school, her daughter informed her that her brother jumped from the window of his room. The mother ran quickly to the window and saw people and an ambulance gathered around her son.
A parking attendant near the building told Gulf News that he saw the boy jumping from the window and falling to the ground.
Police said the child’s parents were questioned following the incident. The police operation room received a call at around 6pm from an eyewitness. A team from Al Buhairah police station is investigating the incident.
The body of the child was moved to Al Qasimi Hospital at around 6.40pm and then to the forensic laboratory. The body was released and the boy was buried on Friday.
Sharjah Police, meanwhile, warned parents to watch their children and their friends as well as watch their children's internet activity.
In another incident, a 51-year-old Syrian man died after falling from the 19th floor of a building in the Al Qassimyah area on Saturday morning, a Sharjah Police official told Gulf News.
Initial investigation revealed that the man apparently committed suicide.
Police operation room received call at around 6am reporting the incident. The man, identified as G.B.H., died on the spot. His body was transferred to a forensic laboratory for an autopsy to determine the cause of the death.
The Al Gharb police station is investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, a 24-year-old Bangladeshi woman survived a fall from the first floor balcony of a building located in Al Qassimyah area. The incident took place at around 9pm on Thursday.
The woman, identified as M.A.Sh., has been taken to Al Kuwaiti hospital where her condition was said to be stable. Al Gharb police station is investigating the incident.
