Abu Dhabi: Using a security drone, an Asian window cleaner was rescued on Tuesday after being stuck at the 10th floor of a residential building in the capital due to faulty scaffolding, Abu Dhabi Police announced.

Through audio-visual monitoring and assistance, officials guided the man to safety, informing him on how to deal with the fault and helping to calm his nerves. According to a police statement, the man attempted to get off the scaffolding and cling to a window for fear of falling from the Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street building.

The police operations department had received a call regarding the malfunction that caused the man to be stuck. Civil Defence, Emergency and Safety units as well as ambulances headed towards the scene.

Upon discovering the fault using the drone and fixing it, the man was taken back to safety and examined for any medical issues. He was found to be in good condition.

Abu Dhabi Police urged all maintenance and contracting companies to take safety precautions and train their staff on how to deal with possible scaffolding faults to maintain the security of workers and pedestrians.

In 2012, two rescue cases involving window cleaners were reported. The men were trapped on the 15th and 23rd floors of different buildings across the capital. However, two Asian workers who fell from the 10th floor of a Khalifa Street building died, Gulf News reported earlier.
