ABU DHABI: Eight female students and a bus supervisor were injured in a traffic accident in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, according to the traffic police here.

The four-vehicle smashup involved a truck, a pick-up and two school buses on Al Raha Beach road, about 35 kilometres away from the Abu Dhabi city. 

The students sustained minor injuries. The accident caused long traffic tailbacks on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai Road, the Abu Dhabi Police said on its social media account on Sunday evening.

Abu Dhabi Police urged motorists to take extra caution while driving Abu Dhabi-Dubai road. ts and the bus supervisor received minor injuries in a five vehicle collision.

Brigadier Salem Abdullah Bin Barak Al Dhaheri, Abu Dhabi Police Traffic Director, said the accident occurred due to tailgating — driving at high speeds and too close to the vehicle in front. 

All those injured were rushed to the hospital.
