Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has decided to suspend the admission of students to the Emirates College for Management and Information Technology, Al Dar University College and Al Jazeera University until all three institutes amend their errors.

The ministry also decided to place the three educational institutes under surveillance. Students already registered in these universities will be able to continue their studies and the ministry will accredit their graduation certificates because their programmes were approved and accepted.

The decision comes as a result of the fact that academic accreditation of educational institutions requires quality programmes and outputs provided by those institutions according to the labour market requirements and international standards for national cadres that are reliable in building a sustainable knowledge-based economy.

Dr Abu Al Ela, Director of the Academic Accreditation Authority at the ministry, said that the decision was taken after a routine visit made by the authority to check on licensing standards that guarantees the practical and educational excellence of graduates.

He added that the Academic Accreditation Authority, in cooperation with the external evaluation committee, will re-evaluate these institutes to decide whether they have rectified their status and are ready to receive students in the future

He added that the Ras Al Khaimah Etihad University had also been placed under surveillance previously.

The ministry usually takes a suspension decision when major issues are discovered during routine inspection visits such as the non-existence of sufficient qualified teachers, non-existent educational sources, poor quality curriculum and other related issues.
